Overview
The location of the Brazilian Antarctic lies in a world of ice and silence where winter nights can last up to 19 hours. Here, architecture enters into a distinct relationship with the nature at the peninsula within the southern hemisphere. Where conditions are extreme, also architecture needs to meet these extrems, creating still a basis of reference and cultural belonging for humans.
The main articulations of the base structure and the prevailing geographical points of the project are inlined with the constellation of the stars of the visible on the Brazilian flag. With stars always being a point a reference and (be-) longing, we want to bring this point of reference to the ground of almost untouched land.
The correspondence with the stars representing the states of the Brazilian nation makes it possible to establish a geographical and cultural reference from the nocturnal winter vision of the peninsula and the station from space.
