Overview
Generalitat Education Department’s program for this project was to increase the number of both normal classrooms and specialized spaces, such as a gym or a multipurpose room. The project proposes the demolition of the perpendicular building in order to reestablish a continuity of the exterior space connecting the pine forest from a higher level with the playground in the lowest area. The multipurpose room now was integrated in the topography of the longitudinal section, creating a new visual connection on the terrain section. The existing building, the playground and the gym now were related through the new visual axes that define the new common and social space. The interior stairs leading to the multipurpose room and the playground, are left hanging of the surrounding concrete slabs and are connected to a new vertical space. While the new building inhabits the needed new facilities, the old building is reused and refurbished profiding space for the normal classrooms. The new entrance of the center provides with stairs and lifts, apart from the natural access to the playground. A small tree covered outdoor space enhances the idea of the access.
